The project Digital Cinema delivers solutions
for the complete digital production of movies. This includes
all aspects of cinema from camera to production, postproduction,
different possibilities of reproduction and distribution.
In this cooperation the German
Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Fraunhofer
Institute for Media Communication IMK (now Fraunhofer IAIS) in St. Augustin,
the Fraunhofer
Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS with the department
Image Sensor Technology and the former Fraunhofer Arbeitsgruppe
in Ilmenau (now Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT)
were involved.
Objective of the project was the elaboration of concepts for
the realization of a complete digital workflow for movie productions.
Basic elements, developed in the context of the venture, are
of significance for the development and the establishment
of the electronic cinema.
Even after the end of the term of investment the research
on the new founded Fraunhofer IDMT and on the Fraunhofer IMK
in form of a common self research project is continued. A
special aim is the production and the reproduction of digital
sound and digital images according to the Wave
Field Synthesis specifications.
