Based on the first research results, media experiences for children as well as information and support for parents will be provided. Medium- and long-term objective of the department is the contribution to new media technologies implemented in future media services for children. Besides the analysis of media effects and their influence on future technologies the department 's activities also include the design of media services. The focus is on digital media technologies, knowledge technologies as well as interactive dramaturgy.

The young department's research work will cover almost all scenarios in which kids get in contact with media - including the audio- and video-sector, broadcasting and TV applications, the internet, e-learning applications and digital games. In the area of Children's Media, different scientific disciplines overlap creating synergies and new impulses. On the one hand, the research work focuses on children's and teenagers' needs of everyday life.

On the other hand, it pays attention to trends in different cultural contexts. A wide variety of partners in international scientific centers, economy, culture, politics as well as parents and teachers intensively participate in the research process and thus bring in different perspectives.
